PREPRINT Users , Roles , and Personas

چکیده
ion and independence of implementation enables the modeler to focus on the essence of the task from the perspective of the user without complicating the picture by jumping ahead into details of the visual and interaction design. In this example, the abstract essence of my task as a user is just to tell the system who I am, make a choice, and get my cash. Essential models challenge the designer both to understand the true nature of the problem from a user perspective and to provide a much simplified solution. Abstraction highlights opportunities for further exploration and for innovation, such as making the choices offered reflect user intentions, such as withdrawing the usual amount, rather than bank policies and systems structures. If I have only one account and always withdraw $240 dollars from it, I should not have to tell the ATM which account and re-enter the amount on every withdrawal, for example. Task models in the form of essential use cases have shown that they can help designers identify innovative solutions that better fit with genuine user needs (Constantine and Lockwood, 1999; 2002; Strope, 2003; Windl, 2002b).

“Personas” to Support Development of Cyberinfrastructure for Scientific Data Sharing
Objective: To ensure that cyberinfrastructure for sharing scientific data is useful, system developers need to understand what scientists and other intended users do as well as the attitudes and beliefs that shape their behaviours. This paper introduces personas — detailed descriptions of an “archetypical user of a system” — as an approach for capturing and sharing knowledge about potential sys...
متن کاملA Preliminary Examination of Using Personas to Enhance User-Centered Design
Organizations now routinely collect information about the needs of their consumers/users, but this information is not sufficiently utilized. This research investigates how encapsulating the user needs in a persona affects the resulting design decisions. Personas put a face on the target users and create a vivid design target by using a narrative, picture, and name. In our study, we examine whet...
متن کاملPersonas Help Understand Users’ Needs, Goals and Desires in an Online Institutional Repository
Communicating users' needs, goals and problems help designers and developers overcome challenges faced by end users. Personas are used to represent end users’ needs. In our research, creating personas allowed the following questions to be answered: Who are the potential user groups? What do they want to achieve by using the service? What are the problems that users face? What should the service...
متن کاملDesigning Personas with Empathy Map
A software product’s acceptance depends on the user experience that it provides to its users. The software product must meet the user needs, and one way to understand those needs is through creation of Personas. The Personas technique allows describing the users’ characteristics, goals and skills. The Empathy Map (EM) method can be used to describe personas. The EM’s goal is to create a degree ...
متن کاملExploring the use of personas for designing with dogs
In HCI designers use personas as aids to explore a design space. Animal Computer Interaction (ACI) aims to design for multi-species users, thus here we explore the use of canine personas for investigating requirements for a canine emergency alert system enabling assistance dogs to call for help on behalf of their vulnerable owners in an emergency. Based on our work with canine users, we discuss...
متن کاملDesign and evaluation: end users, user datasets and personas.
Understanding the needs and aspirations of a suitable range of users during the product design process is an extremely difficult task. Methods such as ethnographic studies can be used to gain a better understanding of users needs, but they are inherently time consuming and expensive. The time pressures that are evident in the work performed by design consultancies often make these techniques im...
